A highly responsive, insightful lawyer who makes complex issues accessible.
John has a wealth of experience advising on all aspects of employment law and has spent significant time ‘at the sharp end’, arguing clients’ cases at tribunal. As a result of John’s employment law specialism – he qualified as a solicitor in 1991 and has been advising on legal HR issues ever since – you’ll be working with a solicitor that has in-depth knowledge, and, as a result, delivers accurate and insightful solutions when you need them.
Having undertaken a number of secondments at major household name organisations working side by side with large and sophisticated HR teams, John understands how legal advice can best be tailored to suit both the commercial needs of the client and the practical realities of working life. He has developed particular experience in assisting clients to successfully navigate their way through large scale business re-organisations and difficult TUPE transfers.
But don’t just take our word for it. Chambers and Partners, A Client’s Guide to the Legal Profession has commented:
John “understands business needs which may not always sit within pure employment law – he’s pragmatic and sensible” as well as recognising that he “distinguished by his skilled handling of large and complex restructurings, involving trade union negotiations”. John’s “easy explanations of complex and technical points” as well as his “impressive understanding of the employer’s point of view” have also been recognised in this publication.
In addition, John has significant experience advising on data privacy. He has provided assistance to clients on a diverse range of issues including provision of standard documentation (such as privacy notices and data protection policies), the effective handling of subject access requests and the management of data breaches.
John has been instrumental in the development of our HR training programme, delivering seminars and workshops, both regionally and nationally, on a wide range of topics. He also recognises the importance of the human element in any employment matter. He has a degree in Psychology and is a trained counsellor. His skill is therefore to deliver practical solutions that will actually work in the highly complex field of human relationships.
With the legal press having independently recognised that John is warmly praised by clients for possessing “that increasingly rare quality of being an absolute pleasure to work with”, we’re confident that he is a solicitor you’ll want on your team!Back to People →
