Lucas Atkin promoted to Head of Data Privacy
We are delighted to announce that Lucas Atkin, who joined us as a Senior Associate from Bates Wells almost one year ago, has been promoted to the role of Head of Data Privacy. Lucas continues to be recognised as an industry leader in this practice area at domestic, European and global levels and takes on the Head of Data Privacy role having spent the past year leading and expanding our data privacy practice.
Lucas is one of the most respected voices amongst a new generation of privacy lawyers. He has worked in London, Munich and Singapore and speaks both Spanish and German, which we consider advantageous given the international nature of the practice area. While Lucas has worked for a wide range of clients of different sizes and financial resources, he has particular experience of working with political parties, sports clubs and institutions, campaigning platforms, charities, online businesses, construction firms and tech innovators.
Lucas’ recent experience includes:
- advising an international charity on the data privacy aspects of a high-profile and heavily-scrutinised scandal;
- advising a national institute for data science and artificial intelligence on data privacy regulators’ approach on regulatory enforcement and technological innovation;
- advising both a former Premier League manager and former member of the UK Government cabinet on the extent of the application of the freedom of expression exemption to various data privacy law obligations; and
- advising an international construction company on minimising exposure under the GDPR’s right of access in response to redundancy exercises unfortunately necessitated by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Lucas said: “Joining Greenwoods GRM has been the best development in my career. We have quickly established a sustainable data privacy offering which is capable of serving both existing and new clients to the highest standards. I have been given a level of independence and creative freedom which few employers would offer and have been allowed the space to implement my own ideas with incredible support throughout. Data privacy is a key growth target for Greenwoods GRM, and our work is paying off with a portfolio of high profile happy clients. With more hard work, creativity and innovation, we look forward to more success and growth in the future”.
Head of Employment, John Macaulay said: “We are delighted to see Lucas promoted to this new role. Data Privacy has been an important target area of growth for us for a long time and, in Lucas, we have absolutely the right person to lead our data privacy practice – both our client base and instructions for data privacy work have expanded significantly since he joined us.
Looking ahead, it is clear that data privacy law will continue to become an essential and frequent consideration for businesses of all types and sizes, so we are very happy to have a sustainable, reliable and flexible offering in this area for all of our clients.”
