How to be prepared for a dawn raid
In the first of a new series of expert video blogs from our Regulatory team, Legal Executive Jayne Nutt explains how to prepare for a dawn raid.
We hope you find it interesting, and we’d welcome your feedback. If there are topics you’d like to see covered, let us know – we’d be delighted to feature them.
What is a dawn raid?
An inspection carried out at business premises without warning when a company may be under investigation.
Who can carry out a dawn raid?
The agencies authorised to carry out a dawn raid include:
- The Competitions and Markets Authority
- The Serious Fraud Office
- HM Revenues and Customs
- The Home Office
How can I be prepared?
Dawn raids occur when you least expect them. Therefore it is crucial for businesses to be prepared since they will always happen without notice.
Businesses can do this by having a comprehensive dawn raids policy in place which all employees should be aware of.
In addition, a short crib sheet should be available to assist employees in the event of a dawn raid taking place.
